Head Strong

I have always been vehemently opposed to 2 in 1 shampoos and conditioners. The thought of 2 in 1 products conjure up images of men's products that reside on the shelf next to generic shaving cream.

Although with my time-starved lifestyle, a 2 in 1 that actually works would be a welcome addition to my product collection. It might even tempt me to wash my hair a little more often.

Enter: Head Organics 2 in 1 Shampoo & Conditioner. I'll admit when I received it in the mail I was hesitant and stubborn and let it sit for the better part of a week. Then I tried it and I was wowed. My hair felt clean, soft, detangled and manageable all in one step!

What's more exciting and enticing is that Head Organic products are just what they say...organic, vegan, professional hair care that is free from any harmful chemicals you just might find in other 2 in 1's on the shelf.

Head Organics 2 in 1 contains a blend of yummy ingredients including

Cranberry Fruit Extract – features anti-oxidant properties to purify hair

Rosemary Leaf Extract – provides hydration and moisture to hair

Jojoba Seed Oil – acts as a carrier for moisture agents

Lesson learned: it is important to try new things without being stubborn and stuck in false perceptions. (Especially when it simplifies your beauty routine and is great for your hair!)

Derma Logical

One of my favorite beauty spots in LA is the Dermalogica Flagship on Montana Ave in Santa Monica. As you all know I am a BIG Dermalogica fan and use their products religiously.

I am also known to visit every 4-6 weeks for a facial with Michelle. Last week I was invited to the store along with fellow bloggers to check out the renovations and indulge in a microzone treatment.

The store used to house 3 Pods for full length treatments, now the Daddy Pod has been opened up and two chairs have replaced the bed, making room for more microzone 20 minute quick fixes. I hear this layout more resembles the location in SOHO.

A microzone treatment is like the perfect power nap, 20 minutes of relaxation that packs a punch and in this case produces visible results!

Due to the economy and our obsession with instant gratification this was a logical transition for the nature of the store. I just hope its not more difficult to book my full hour.

The Makeup Plan

The days or nights that I am putting on more makeup than just tinted moisturizer, blush, mascara and gloss take some thinking. Since it is not that often that I delve into the land of liner and shadow, I usually try to plan my color scheme around what I am planning to wear.

My getting ready routine goes hair, makeup, wardrobe...much like the order on the photo shoots I used to produce. That however poses a challenge when it comes to eye palette picking. The problem: what if the outfit changes mid getting dressed, do you grab for something in the same color scheme or abandon the plan. I guess this all depends on how noticeable the eye color is, what level of statement it makes and if you have the time or energy to redo the eyes.

If all else fails, I stick with neutrals or metallics. The metallics however often require a plan as well, at least for me who bases metallic makeup on what jewelry I will be wearing.

Now that I have revealed my makeup induced OCD, what are your beauty compulsions?

Hair Apparent

I spent a lazy Sunday in my sweat pants mourning the loss of the USC Trojans, recovering from candy overload and watching chick flicks, while my husband indulged in Nascar, football and the World Series.

I had never seen The Women and knew it was the perfect day to cuddle up under my Pottery Barn Throw and take in the female only film.

What I found most interesting was that there were no men at all in the entire movie (go girl power!) and as a beauty junkie that as Meg Ryan's character transformed so did her hair. Both styles, her perfect curls and her pin straight locks were absolutely beautiful. I found myself coveting her curls and salivating over her straight look.

Then, I began to think about what our hairstyles say. As Meg's character served divorce papers, started her own business and came into her own her hair went from curly to straight. Her straight hair seems more polished, professional, sophisticated and serious which mimics what her character in the second half of the film.

I, too, in my life fluctuate between straight and wavy depending on my outfit, mood, how many time I motivate to the gym, what meetings I have lined up, the weather and my level of laziness. Unlike Meg in The Women my daily do's aren't quite as cut and dry.

What motivates your hair style changes?
