Beauty on Newbury

I just returned from a quick weekend trip to Boston, a city that I love. We try and visit at least twice a year. My husband went to school there and still has tons of friends living there and I have family roots in Cambridge and Lynn.

I first visited Boston with my late grandparents over 15 years ago and stayed right on the corner of Newbury Street.

When you visit Boston the famed Newbury is a must for any fashionista, beauty buff, restaurant lover, really anyone. What I really grabbed my attention this time was the abundance of salons, spas and nail shops along the tree lined sidewalks.

Note: you must look up to see most as they are on the second floor of most buildings. Look in most second story windows and you will see someone equipped with a blowdryer, round brush, shears or foils.

According to newbury-st.com, there are 51 hair salons and 17 day spas along the 8 blocks that are the enchanting Newbury Street.

As I walked the street mesmerized by the number of salons, let alone the beauty of the buildings that housed them, I turned to my husband and said "this is a visual mecca, heaven for any beauty-loving girl. How would anyone know which shop to choose?"

"Yes, babe," he said. "If you're a hair designer in Boston and you have a salon on Newbury, you've arrived!" And if my all-boy all the time husband knows, it must be the truth.

Although the economy has seen salons on this street come and go, there is never a shortage of talent teeming out of the second level of the brownstones on this famous walk.
